What’s a Vaporizer?

A vaporizer (or vaporiser) is a device used to release the active ingredients of tobacco or other plant material by blowing hot air through the material at a temperature that is high enough to activate the active ingredients, but not acutally combust or burn the material.

Vaporizers can also be used with ones favorite herbs or essential oils for aromatherapy purposes. Vaporization is an alternative to smoking. Rather than burning the herb, which produces numerous harmful by-products, a vaporizer heats the material in a controlled manner so that only the active compounds contained in the plant boil off into a vapor. This new gas is not smoke from combustion, but an evaporated vapor that has the appearance of light smoke. The vapor ideally contains virtually zero tar and reduced noxious gases, such as carbon monoxide. The vapor is either pumped into a balloon, which the user can inhale off at leisure or inhaled through a whip. With little to no smoke produced and cooler air temperatures, the irritating/harmful effects of smoking are greatly reduced or eliminated by using a vaporizer. Vaporizers also do away with the problem of second hand smoke. This makes vaporizers useful in places where there are public bans on smoking.
